About Camp For Me
About Camp For Me
Camp For Me is a day camp for adopted children and teens
ages 7 – 17 held in two one-week sessions in July on the
campus of Thatcher Brook Middle School in Waterbury, Vermont.
Camp For Me offers traditional summer activities: games,
sports, arts & crafts, theater, field trips, swimming, nature
studies, hiking and more.
But most importantly, Camp For Me is a unique opportunity
for children to be with other kids who share the adoptive
experience.
Founded in 1995 by the Vermont Children's Aid Society,
Camp For Me evolved into our current organization in 2010
when parents, volunteers, and former VCAS staff came
together to continue the vision and principles of the VCAS
program.
The program is grounded in a philosophy of family-centered
values that offers campers empathy, understanding and
structure – plus a whole lot of fun.
At Camp For Me young people who have been adopted into
their families can smile and laugh with a group they belong to
without doubts and explanations. For many it is a rare chance
to leave troubles behind. Our campers come from a wide
spectrum of origins and backgrounds, finding common
ground and building friendships that last long past summer.
Camp For Me, Inc. is an independent Vermont 501(c)(3) non-
profit corporation. The Board of Directors has the invaluable
help of affiliate organizations on the Camp For Me Advisory
Board, including Lund Family Center, Vermont Adoption
Consortium, Easter Seals, Adoption Advocates, Northeastern
Family Institute, Vermont Department for Children and
Families, and Northeast Kingdom Human Services
The expertise of the directors and advisors helps us create a
team of leaders and counselors with the skills necessary to
work with adopted children, as well as the business
background to operate a vibrant and exciting day camp.
Camp For Me can be an experience that helps a child build a
strong and healthy life. Come join us in July. Have fun, make
friends, and be yourself with the Camp For Me family!
